About Ellerhurst & Co.
Why Ellerhurst & Co. exists
Most women's clothing online falls into one of two piles. There is the cheap pile, where the photograph promises a structured coat and the parcel contains a shapeless one. And there is the expensive pile, where a considered piece costs more than a month of groceries. The middle of that range is thin, and it is where most people actually shop.
Ellerhurst & Co. was built for that middle. The idea is unglamorous and it is the whole point: put together a small range of pieces that look composed rather than trend-chasing, describe them honestly, price them where a working wardrobe can absorb them, and then get out of the way.
We are a retailer. We do not run a mill, we do not cut patterns, and we are not going to tell you a story about a workshop that does not exist. What we are responsible for is the range you see, the accuracy of what we write about it, and what happens after you press buy.
Our mission
To make a considered wardrobe ordinary. Not aspirational, not once-a-year: ordinary. A woman should be able to open a shop, find a coat that reads as expensive, understand exactly what she is looking at, and get it delivered without a single unpleasant surprise between the order and the doorstep.
Our vision
We want to be the shop people come back to when they are tired of gambling. Where the description matches the parcel, the sizes are written the same way across every listing, and the return terms are the same in the small print as on the product page. If that sounds modest for a vision, it is because the retail bar is lower than it should be, and clearing it consistently is the ambition.
How the range is put together
The range is small on purpose, and it is assembled against evidence rather than instinct.
- Seasonal demand. Before a category goes into the store we check how search demand for it moves over the coming months in the United States. Pieces whose season is ending do not go in, however good they look.
- The photographs decide the description. Every listing is written from the images on that listing. Cut, neckline, sleeve, visible length, pattern, fastening, colors. If a detail is not visible, it is not claimed.
- Consistency checks across the store. Sizes are written the same way on every product. Color names match the swatches. The shipping figures on a product page match the ones in the policy. These are checked as a set, not page by page.
What you will not find here is a claim that someone in an office personally handled each garment. We do not inspect stock by hand, and saying otherwise would be the easiest lie in this business to tell.
What we hold ourselves to
Concretely, and these are the same figures you will find in our policies:
- Free shipping on orders over $100, with a flat $8.00 below that.
- Orders processed in 1-2 business days, delivery in 5-8 business days, 6-10 business days in total.
- 14 days from delivery to start a return, and a refund within 5 business days after the return arrives and has been checked.
- Support on Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM CST/CDT (Central Time), by email and by phone, answered within 1 business day.
What we sell
The range is built for autumn and winter in the United States.
- Dresses with sleeves and length, cut for cooler months rather than for a beach.
- Matching Sets, where the decision is already made for you.
- Knitwear, the part of the wardrobe that gets worn most and looked at least.
- Outerwear, the piece everybody sees.
- Separates, the trousers and tops that make the rest work.
Start with the knitwear, or write to us first if you want a second opinion on sizing.
